Sharing History:
Photos of the Neighborhood and Objects of Personal Significance

For this workshop participants should bring in old personal photos of themselves or of the neighborhood. In addition, participants can also bring in one object that has personal significance. Each participant will have time to share with the group a little bit about their photos or objects. In response to what the group has shared participants will be able  to make objects or record or write a story based on an object or photo. Selected images and objects will be temporarily borrowed to create an exhibition in the gallery space. All types of contributions will be incorporated into the exhibition.

Saturday, July 28th, 10 am - 12 pm
Buried Under Dreams

This is a postcard project in which all participants are given the same postcard. On the front of the card is an image of two kites. Written on the kites are the words 'Buried Under Dreams.' All participants will be asked to respond to this image by writing or drawing on the back of the postcard. The postcard can be addressed to whomever the participant chooses. The collection of postcards will provide a broad spectrum of views on how the phrase  ‘Buried Under Dreams’ can be interpreted. All the cards will be exhibited in the gallery until the conclusion of the show. After the exhibition, if the participants wish, the cards will be mailed off to the intended recipient.

Saturday, August 4th, 10 am - 12 pm
Conversations with Public Space
Prepare to get your hands dirty! During this workshop, participants will be working with modeling materials. Together we will explore the surrounding area, looking for patterns and designs that are imbedded within the landscape. Participants will make impressions from the landscape which will be formed into a community mural. In addition, participants will pick a public space they are drawn to and upon return to the Hardwood Art Center, will make hand painted signs. The signs will then be placed back into the chosen public spaces.
