The surface is just the beginning! Using beeswax, heat, and imagery/paper/cloth of your choice, students will create a series of collages and mixed media works on panels and on paper. Encaustic wax is an exciting alternative to working with adhesives, and can be combined with painting, sculpture, fiber art, and other mediums. Bring your own images, patterned papers, and fabric scraps of your own, or select from the provided materials. Collage materials will be fused to the surface working with an iron, heat gun or a torch!
This workshop is presented in conjunction with the 516 ARTS exhibition Flatlanders and Surface Dwellers (March 9- June 1, 2013). Lea Anderson, the exhibition’s Guest Curator, and Jessica Kennedy, a participating artist in the exhibition will lead this workshop.
