1. Field and Garden: Paintings by David Welch
In oil landscapes and plein air watercolors David Welch documents the rhythmic nature of tending the land. The work of the gardener is repetitive. Sowing, weeding, pruning, and harvesting take on qualities that are cyclical as well as meditative. Welch presents moments in the field or garden that are both typical and timeless, and one senses, in the care and constancy of the gardeners, a reverence for the land that they tend. The most frequent subjects of Welch’s paintings are the farmers of the Los Poblanos Organic Farm and the workers of some of the great gardens of France, such as Monet’s Giverny and the Chateau de Villandry. Nature has long been the inspiration for Welch’s work, and in these images he uses strong light and rich color to honor and celebrate the glory of the garden.
2. Image and Identity: Run to the Sun Photography Project
Native American youth use photography to answer five questions:
What is community?
Who am I?
Who are we?
Where do we come from?
Where are we going?
Run to the Sun is a collaboration between First Nations Community Health Source and the Native American Community Academy to offer students access to a highly engaging learning experience designed to support culture, academic learning and physical health. Presented in partnership with VSA North Fourth Arts.
3. Recycled Heart: Annual Exhibition by ArtStreet
A Program of Albuquerque Healthcare for the Homeless
4. On a Cellular Level: Sculpture Installation by Linda Holland
The stunning natural light that bathes the south upstairs gallery on winter days is an inspirational catalyst for this installation of sculptures by Linda Holland. The layers of cells comprising her suspended paper and copper works explore form and space, translucence and shadow.
