Harwood

Hello,

My name is Stephanie Gabriel and I am the new director of the Harwood Art Center of Escuela del Sol Montessori. I am thrilled to join this amazing organization.  After 14 years at New Mexico Voices for Children, where I worked hard to improve the lives of children and families in New Mexico, I am excited to apply my expertise to this equally important area of the non-profit sector. Because the arts are such powerful tools for self-expression, community building  and social justice, they are vitally important elements of a healthy, vibrant, equitable and powerful society.

Having a background in administration, grant writing, program management, financial oversight, strategic planning and community collaboration and having studied studio art and art history at Indiana University, I jumped at the chance to work at the Harwood. Combine my passions for non-profit community advocacy and the arts and get to work with an equally passionate team? Okay!

I believe that creativity is something that resides in all people and things and thus we are all capable of creation, in whatever myriad forms speak to and inspire us. As a community resource, educational entity and exhibition/performance space, the Harwood facilitates both the private and public exploration of these important creative impulses.

There are so many wonderful things happening here and I invite you to join me in exploring them. From gallery exhibitions, youth apprenticeship programs, painting, tap, and fiddle classes, to summer art camp, the annual Carnuel Road Parade & Fiesta, and chicken raising workshops at the Action Buzz Garden, there’s something here for everyone.  Come and see why I am so happy to be part of this thriving arts community.
